A Russian chemist Mendeleef in 1869 stated that, "The Properties of elements were the periodic function of their atomic masses". It is called Mendeleef's periodic law. According to this law the physical and chemical properties of elements repeat themselves at regular interval.
Mendeleef arranged the elements in horizontal rows or Periods and vertical columns or groups.
Mendeleev's periodic table was very precise and formed the basis of modern classification of elements.
